VISION 2026: Shaping Our Future Together

Nearly 50 years since our congregation’s move to East Massey, we are inspired to sustain what is one of the most beautiful synagogue campuses in North America.

At a time when the need for Jewish connection has arguably never been greater, a revitalization of our most sacred and community-focused spaces is long overdue.

Vision 2026: Shaping Our Future Together is not simply a plan for design – It is an investment in our Jewish tomorrow to ensure that Temple Israel remains a thriving congregation and a vibrant community of belonging.

Vision 2026 Investments

  • Transform Our Worship Spaces

Our worship spaces host the most memorable Simchas of our lifetimes and must continue to carry the weight of such precious life cycle moments. We will transform the following spaces used to pray, celebrate, commemorate, and continue Jewish tradition:

    Greenstein Sanctuary

    Danziger Chapel

    Foyer

    Ettelson Wax Social Hall

    Bridal Room

Congregant Amenities, including Bathrooms and ADA Accessibility

    New Technology and Lighting

  • Create New Spaces for Outdoor Gathering

Vision 2026’s state-of-the-art renovation for worship, connection, and community will be extended to the outdoors with new spaces for every generation to gather, including:

    Interior Courtyard

To complement our interior sacred spaces and foyers, the interior courtyard area will be redeveloped to offer a welcoming setting for 100-150 people to gather for life-cycle events, holiday programming, or casual entertaining. Strategically situated as the heart of our building design with windows and access from all sides, this courtyard will be elevated into a central space for intimate connection and meaningful programming.

    Outdoor Ampitheater

In an artistic completion of our sanctuary’s semicircle, a state-of-the-art outdoor amphitheater designed to accommodate upwards of 500+ will draw us into the greater world to gather, celebrate, learn, and worship in an environment that fosters a connection to nature and each other. From performances to picnics and worship to simchas, the space will blend artistic lighting and audio-visual technology in harmony with a lush green setting.

  • Expand & Enhance the Barbara K. Lipman Early Learning Center

Vision 2026 will provide a state-of-the-art renovation and expansion of our flagship Barbara K. Lipman Early Learning Center, which celebrates 36 years of educational excellence.

One of Temple Israel’s most important gateways to Jewish life for our congregation and greater community, the BKL ELC will undergo enhancements and expansions to support not simply square footage but rather innovation — holistic innovation in curriculum, security, technology, and all-around education.

    Highlights include:

Add four new classrooms, ensuring all educational and programmatic space is encapsulated in a secure location

Transform and expand outdoor play space to offer developmentally appropriate experiences

Build a new indoor play space that encourages imaginative and educational play

Integrate new technology to support modern teaching methods and enhance the learning experience

Modernize with fresh paint, new carpeting, updated cubbies, etc. to make it inviting and refreshed

  • Improve our Infrastructure

Updating Temple’s 50-year-old building infrastructure is crucial to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance. Over time, building systems and materials have deteriorated or become obsolete, posing risks to occupants and increasing maintenance costs. Infrastructure upgrades will be made to improve energy efficiency, enhance safety, and align the building with current regulatory standards.

    Key infrastructure updates include:

LED Lighting Upgrade to reduce energy consumption and improve illumination quality.

Electrical System Updates to meet modern load demands and improve safety.

Roof Repair/Replacement to address leaks, structural issues, or insulation problems to protect the building from weather damage and improve energy efficiency.

Plumbing Upgrades to prevent leaks, enhance water quality, and reduce water usage.

Fire Safety Enhancements, including updating fire alarms, sprinkler systems, and emergency exits to comply with fire safety regulations.

Accessibility Upgrades, includingmodifying entrances, bathrooms, and pathways to comply with ADA requirements, ensuring accessibility for all.

Digital Infrastructure for internet, security, and communication systems to meet current connectivity demands.

Your generosity today will build a lasting legacy for tomorrow.

As we embrace the future of Temple Israel, Vision 2026 is our shared path forward, guided by our deep commitment to worship, connection, and community.

This vision, born from thoughtful planning and strong leadership, now calls for your active participation. Your support will ensure that our sacred spaces continue to nurture these essential pillars for generations to come.

Every contribution, large or small, is crucial in turning this vision into reality. We invite you to join us in shaping a future where Temple Israel remains a vibrant and enduring home for all.

  • “Our Temple Israel ancestors always selflessly planted seeds of a future not their own. We must do the same.”

    Rabbi Micah D. Greenstein

  • “Vision 2026 is a bold initiative designed to enhance the physical and spiritual heart of Temple Israel. With a total project cost of $15 million, this campaign will fund crucial renovations, expansions, and upgrades that will support our growing congregation and ensure that our sacred spaces meet the needs of future generations.”

    Mark Gulner, Executive Director

  • “Our temple is more than just a place of worship; it is our home away from home. It is where we gather to share our joys and sorrows, where we trust our children will receive a strong Jewish education, and where we find community and spirituality. Guided by our faith, we are committed to making the world a better place. That is why we chose to support this campaign—to ensure that our temple remains a guiding light for future families, allowing them to experience Judaism as deeply and meaningfully as we have.”

    Helen Scheidt

  • “Our children grew up at Temple, shaping who they are as Jews today and how they will raise their children. This congregation is our extended family. With our gift to Vision 2026, we are so grateful and blessed to be able to pay it forward, planting seeds for future generations of Temple Israel families.”

    Wendy & Cary Rotter

  • “I have a special place in my heart for Temple Israel. There is no place in this country like it, and we are so incredibly lucky to be a part of the Temple family. I was honored to serve as president of the congregation, and I’m helping lead Vision 2026 because I know how important it is to continue to invest in Temple’s future and into the next generation of outstanding families. Temple is already great, but the best is yet to come, and I am fortunate to be a part of it!”
